Force Maven Women's Weekend!

Title: Liquid Force Maven Women's Weekend!
Date: August 2007

Jetty Island, in Northwest Washington state, has not had the best of summers for wind. After getting skunked weekend after weekend for no wind, the crew at Seattle Kiteboarding Center's Jetty Island shop & school were getting a little frustrated.

So when the Women's Kiteboarding Association teamed up with SKC to put on the Liquid Force Maven Women's Weekend at Jetty Island, flexibility for moving the event was key. With rain and gray skies in the forecast for the clinic, WKA and SKC made the call to move the booked women's weekend to the Gorge, 5 hours away.

Much to our surprise, not only did all the women still come, more wanted to sign up at the new location. That's what warm and windy conditions do... make you want to go kiteboarding! Liquid Force gave out Maven swag for the gals and loaned the WKA new Liquid Force Havoc kites and Aura boards for the weekend.

The Women's Weekend consisted of a beginner's "Board Start" clinic on Saturday, where the gals practiced body-dragging and flying the kite upwind and one-handed. We used Liquid Force Havocs, which were consistently crashed and beautifully relaunched by each student over and over again. The relaunchability on the Havocs sure boosted self confidence for the gals.

Each gal in the clinic had a breakthrough day for getting up and riding!
The second day of the Women's Weekend consisted of an intermediate-advanced clinic for ladies looking to take their riding to the next level with more technical jumps, smooth transitions and maneuvers. Pro rider Tonia Farman taught the advanced riders raleys, launching and landing big jumps, air transitions, and transitioning to toeside.

"I would like to share this passion with every women I meet. I had to chance to learn to kiteboard in June 2007 at the Wind and Kite School in NB Canada and since my first body dragging session, I have been hooked. I have been trying to explain to other women what it feel like to kite and I can`t even put it in words, to me it feel like I am flying... I am so hooked that I will rearrange my work day to allow me to kite in case they call for a windy day!! I have seen myself kite in very nice warm conditions and also very cold conditions... For women who live in parts of the world were you have 4 seasons this sport can allow to kite in the water and in the snow as well!! Spread the good news about kiting!!"
